Phonics Keyboard app. Last updated: November 2026
The short version. Everything you do in Phonics Keyboard stays on your own device. There are no accounts, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking. Your recordings are never sent to us or to anyone else. We cannot see them.
Who makes the app
Phonics Keyboard is made by one independent developer in England, the developer named as the seller on the app's App Store page. If you have any question about privacy, or anything else, email esteem_cosine.22@icloud.com.
What the app keeps on your device
- Family voice recordings, if you choose to make them: one short sound file for each sound you record, with the name and picture you give that voice.
- Your settings: which sounds your child knows, and which voice the keyboard and games use.
- Whether you have unlocked every sound, so the app works without an internet connection.
All of this is kept in the app's own private storage on your device. If your device's backup is switched on (iCloud or a computer), it is included in that backup, which Apple and you look after under your own account. We never receive a copy. Deleting a voice in the app removes its recordings. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
The microphone
The app only uses the microphone in Family voices, while you are recording a sound, and only after you have allowed it. Your device asks you first. You can change this at any time in your device's Settings, under Phonics Keyboard.
Your child
Phonics Keyboard is made for grown-ups to use with their child. There is no child account and no sign-up. If you record your child saying the sounds, that recording stays on your device like any other. The app is built to need the least possible information about anyone, which is the approach the Children's code (the Age Appropriate Design Code) asks for.
Sharing a voice file
A voice file only leaves your device if you choose to save or share a copy, for example to Files, AirDrop or email. It then goes only where you send it.
Purchases
The one-off unlock is bought through Apple. Apple handles the payment and we never see your payment details. The app only learns from Apple whether the unlock has been bought on your Apple ID. See Apple's privacy policy.
The internet
The app works fully offline. It makes no connections of its own. The only time it talks to anything online is when your device checks a purchase with Apple.
What we do not do
We do not collect, sell or share any information. There are no adverts, no analytics, no crash reporting and no profiling of any kind.
Your rights
Because we hold no information about you, there is nothing for us to give you a copy of, correct or delete. You stay in control of everything on your own device. If you are ever unhappy with how your information is handled, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
